Custom Fluted Glass Doors at The Strathmore
Aria Glass completed a series of custom glass entrance assemblies for the amenity level at The Starthmore on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The documented scope included full height hinged glass doors and fixed sidelites serving several shared spaces, including the yoga room, children’s room, pool corridor, cardio room, and connecting halls. Together, these entrances create a consistent visual language across the amenity floor while helping define each room without making the corridor feel closed off.
A defining feature of the project is the use of vertical fluted laminated glass. Rather than reading as fully clear and open, the fluted surface introduces a soft linear texture that filters views and light. This gives the entrances a greater sense of privacy while still allowing brightness and movement to pass through the glass. In practical terms, the doors help separate each amenity space, but in visual terms, they keep the floor feeling connected.
Each entrance combines a full height glass door with an adjacent fixed sidelite, creating a taller and more architectural opening than a standard door condition. The sidelites are framed within slim aluminum glazing channels finished in anodized dark bronze, a darker metal tone that gives the assemblies a defined outline without overpowering the glass itself. This framing helps organize the openings and gives the fluted glass a stronger presence within the surrounding walls.
The door hardware was selected to support that same balance of performance and restraint. Patch fittings at the top and bottom of the glass allow the doors to operate cleanly without the look of heavier traditional framing. In ground floor closers are concealed below the door, which keeps the assemblies visually quiet while allowing each door to close in a controlled and consistent way. Magnetic locking hardware and head stops were also integrated into the entrances, allowing the doors to function as part of the building’s access and safety system without disrupting the overall design.
Across the amenity level, the repeated use of fluted laminated glass, dark bronze framing, and coordinated hardware creates continuity from one space to the next. The result is a series of entrances that feel durable and highly resolved, while also contributing warmth, texture, and a more layered sense of openness throughout the shared interior.
