Franklin Lakes Residence: Glass Railings and Shower Enclosures

Client:Homeowner
Location: Franklin Lakes, NJ
Project type: Residential
Product:Shower Doors & Enclosures | Railings Status: Completed in 2026

At this Franklin Lakes residence, glass is used as a quiet architectural connector, bringing transparency and structure to both the home’s exterior entry and interior bathing spaces. Rather than competing with the surrounding stone, tile, and wood finishes, the glass installations create definition while preserving the openness of each setting.

At the front entry, custom glass railings frame the approach to the residence with a minimal, low profile presence. The clear laminated glass panels sit within a stainless steel base shoe system, allowing the railings to provide safety and enclosure without visually blocking the surrounding landscaping, stone facade, or vertical wood detailing. The result is an exterior condition that feels open and refined while giving the entry sequence a precise architectural edge. The project sketches specify clear laminated tempered glass railings with stainless steel base support shoe details.

Inside the residence, the primary bathroom continues the project’s emphasis on clarity and restraint. A frameless low iron glass enclosure defines the bathing area while keeping the stone surfaces, freestanding tub, and natural light visually connected. The sliding system creates separation without adding weight, allowing the shower to function as its own zone within the larger bath.

The enclosure is detailed with polished low iron tempered glass, polished chrome hardware, a header support bar, wall mounted U clamps, and through glass handle hardware. Each element supports the glass while maintaining a clean, minimal presence within the bathroom’s architectural composition.

A secondary shower condition follows the same approach with a hinged frameless glass door, fixed panels, wall mounted hinges, U clamps, a clear bottom wipe with drip rail, and a back to back handle. The glass defines the shower area while allowing the surrounding tile, hardware, and proportions to remain the focus.

Together, the exterior railings and interior shower enclosures show how glass can serve different functions while maintaining a consistent design language. At the entry, it provides safety and definition. In the bathrooms, it brings clarity, separation, and lightness. Across the project, the installations feel integrated into the residence’s broader balance of structure, transparency, and material detail.
